------------- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ------ March 6, 1998 ---------------- Cold Cut Distribution Buys Downtown Distribution Cold Cut Comics Distribution, the comic book industry's leading independent reorder distributor, announced today the purchase of Downtown Distribution, a Minnesota based distributor of trade paperbacks and graphic novels. Downtown Distribution was a division of Fantasy Flight Incorporated, also based in Minnesota. Mark Thompson, President of Cold Cut, said the acquisition would strengthen Cold Cut's position in the industry. "Now Cold Cut becomes the definitive one-stop source for fast reorders on independent comic books, graphic novels, T-shirts, videos and other related merchandise for retailers," he explained. "The purchase of Downtown is a perfect match, since Downtown's strengths complement our own. Downtown customers now get easy access to Cold Cut's extensive stock of independent comics and T-shirts, our knowledgeable staff and top-notch customer service, and additional publishers like Oni Press and Mixx Publications. Cold Cut customers will now be able to order even more perennial bestselling books such as Tintin, Asterix, and Calvin & Hobbes," Thompson said. Christian T. Petersen, C.E.O. of Fantasy Flight, Inc. said that the time was right for the sale. "It is vital that a significant restock distributor emerge in this industry. Cold Cut's purchase of Downtown will allow it to reach a greater level of activity, allowing it to stock a broader and deeper selection of important perennial merchandise and thus serve its customers more completely!" The sale does not transfer Downtown's liabilities or assets, other than inventory, to Cold Cut. All payments for outstanding Downtown invoices should still be mailed to Downtown Distribution. The acquisition does not include Downtown's facilities or personnel. Cold Cut will remain headquartered in San Jose, California. Cold Cut's free monthly catalog of in-stock comics, books, supplies, CD's, and T-shirts is being expanded and sent to Downtown's customers so that they will incur no delay in obtaining the products they need. "We're happy to welcome Downtown's customers to Cold Cut," said Mark Thompson, "and hope this will encourage even more retailers to see the profit potential of properly-filled reorders. This acquisition now makes it easy for retailers to keep all the individual issues and trade paperbacks they need in stock at all times. Whether they sell out of _Clerks_, _Johnny_The_Homicidal_Maniac_, or _Tintin_, retailers know they can now get them all quickly from one source at the best discounts. And when they sell out of them again and again, they can keep restocking as often as they like."
